SATURDAY – ARRIVAL EVENING

15.35 – Arrive Bilbao airport, where you will be met and accompanied to your hotel. First group briefing 7pm followed by personal time to explore Old Town, have dinner etc. (Note – we can accomodate people arriving in to Bilbao on other flights during the arrival days (Saturdays) listed on the departure dates page)

DAY ONE

Morning – bus to Logrono followed by visit to Calle Laurel, famous for its bars selling delicious tapas and Rioja.  Afternoon – departure for Navarette,  a 3 hour walk through the suburbs and urban parks of Logrono, leading uphill through pine woods and eventually onto dirt tracks through vineyards with good views back to Logrono (approx 12 km of easy walking).    Evening – In Navarette : daily briefing followed by dinner/personal time to enjoy this historic camino town

DAY TWO

Morning – an easy walk to Najera (a distance of approx 17km, mainly on  tracks, through a mixture of rural countryside and Riojan villages.  Afternoon/Evening  – personal time to rest in your hotel/ explore this medium sized town with its beautiful river banks and old streets. Evening – daily briefing/dinner/personal time

DAY THREE

Morning – walk to Santa Domingo de La Calzada, (approx 21 km through gently undulating countryside and many small unspoilt towns and villages.  Terrain is  easy, on wide tracks except where the Camino passes through villages, and as there is less vegetation than previous stages one can see for miles).  Afternoon/Evening  –  personal time to rest in your hotel/ explore the town which is famous for its Cathedral (in which live a hen and cockerel), and for its squares and small winding streets, followed by dinner/evening briefing/personal time

DAY FOUR

Morning – walk to Belorado (approx 23 km). This section of our route follows closely to main roads and consequently it passes through many towns and villages along the way. We also travel out of the La Rioja region across the border into Castilla y Leon).  Afternoon/evening  – personal time to rest in your hotel/ explore the local area and then participation in our daily briefing /review of our day followed by dinner/personal time.

DAY FIVE

Morning – walk to San Juan de Ortega  (approx 24km from Belorado).  We are now heading gradually uphill and travelling through more and more remote terrain. Virtually all of our route is on rural tracks through a mixture of farmland and oak/pine forests. With much fewer towns and villages than yesterday, this is a great day for quiet reflection as we walk. Afternoon/Evening – personal time to rest in your hotel,  followed by daily briefing /dinner/personal time

DAY SIX

Morning – walk to  Burgos  (approx 26 km through a wide variety of terrains, with the general progression being downhill. We pass through farmland and rural villages before following a path along the Arlanzon River for some 8km right into the centre of Burgos. Afternoon/Evening  – Spare time to visit the famous and spectacular Cathedral and explore the many squares and streets full of shops in this beautiful city of 180,000 inhabitants.

DAY SEVEN

Morning – 10.00am – we take the 2-hour bus trip back to Bilbao. Time there to have lunch before catching our 4.15pm flight home to Dublin
